Medication costs are separate and may vary by pharmacy, insurance, and prescription. Patients can use insurance for many prescriptions filled at the pharmacy. Prescriptions are typically written for up to 6 months when medically appropriate, though your dermatologist may choose a shorter or longer length. A paid follow-up visit is required at least every 6 months for ongoing prescription treatment.

Can DocBright write an employer shaving waiver?
Yes, when medically necessary. A board-certified dermatologist reviews your photos and history, and if a condition like PFB makes daily shaving inadvisable, writes documentation appropriate for your employer.
Is a shaving waiver guaranteed?
No. A DocBright visit is a medical evaluation, not a guaranteed waiver. If a waiver isn't medically necessary, you still get a treatment plan for your razor bumps. If we can't help, we'll refund your visit fee.
What causes razor bumps?
Razor bumps, or pseudofolliculitis barbae, happen when shaved hairs curl back and grow into the skin. They're most common in people with curly or coarse hair and are often worse with close shaves.
How are razor bumps treated?
Most plans combine a topical retinoid, a gentle exfoliant, and changes to your shaving routine and tools. Inflamed bumps may also need a topical antibiotic. Your dermatologist tailors the plan to your skin.
What photos should I send?
Clear, well-lit photos of the beard area or other affected skin, close-ups of active bumps, and a note on how often you shave, what tools you use, and anything you've already tried.
